Die “Erasmus Euromedia Awards” werden von der „European Society for Education and Communication“ (ESEC) verliehen. Die Auszeichnungen gehen an herausragende Bildungsmedien, die das Thema Europa im Hinblick auf dessen Zielsetzungen, Perspektiven, Problembedingungen und Herausforderungen zum Inhalt haben. Eine internationale Jury trifft die Auswahl.

Die Erasmus Euromedia Awards für Medienprodukte wurden zum vierten Mal in Wien an herausragende Medienprodukte verliehen. Dieses Jahr wurden insgesamt 62 Medienprodukte aus elf europäischen Ländern nominiert, darunter zwölf aus Österreich. Diese Ehrenpreise sind nicht mit einer finanziellen Zuwendung verbunden.

The integrative cultural project Video_o_drom aims to view Roma and Sinti across South Eastern Europe in a different perspective than the mainstream of the media. It networks Roma and Sinti from different countries to provide transnational exchange of ideas. Being minorities in the respective countries, video_o_drom fosters transnational solidarity among Roma and Sinti in Bulgaria, Austria, Romania and Hungary. Through that, Vide_o_drom tries to provide a framework of coherence by culture contrary to the concept of nation states. ( …) Video_o_drom bridges the generations, providing links for the construction of identity for everyone. Everyone, both inside AND outside the Roma and Sinti community – with the potential to connect Roma and Sinti to the society of the majority and vice versa. (…)

For this efforts in bridging cultures and in honour of its educational ambition in reflecting the development of the European Society, the jury awards Vide_o_drom an Erasmus EurMedia Sponsorship Award 2009.

… und dann fällts du mit diesen Bildern in eine total andere
Welt, total faszinierend und irgendwie irritierend zugleich … für
mich vorher ein blinder Fleck auf der Landkarte … super, wie
man einen Überblick bekommt … richtig mitleben … und nach
dieser Europawahl um so notwendiger …

Neben einem internationalen Filmprogramm mit insgesamt
19 aktuellen Dokumentarfilmen sorgten Filmgespräche
und zwei ExpertenInnenrunden zum Thema „Bild und Realität
der Sinti und Roma“ für reges Interesse. Das Publikum war
altersmäßig und vom Informationsstand her bunt durchmischt.
Besonderes Interesse galt auch den von Roma und Sinti selbst
produzierten Kurzfilmen, die Freitag spätnachmittags im übervollen
Studio persönlich präsentiert wurden. (Diese Selbstdarstellung
unterscheidet sich ganz wesentlich von den Bildern,
die in Filmen über Sinti und Roma dominieren.)

Inhaltlich stellte die Filmschau mit Filmschaffenden
aus Tschechien, Serbien, Bulgarien, Rumänien, Ungarn, Israel,
USA, dem Kosovo und Österreich sehr unterschiedliche Roma
und Sintikulturen dar. Spezielles Augenmerk lag auf den aktuellen
Lebensbedingungen in den Ghettos Südosteuropas und
auf der Geschichte der Sinti in Deutschland und Österreich. 3
Filme widmeten sich RomakünstlerInnen. Die RegisseurInnen
waren anwesend und diskutierten über ihre filmischen Positionen:
Die Österreicherin Karin Berger mit ihrem Porträt über
Ceija Stojka, der Serbe Milos Stojanovic mit einer Musikdoku
über den herausragenden serbischen Romasänger „Shaban“ und
die in Rumänien lebende Ungarin Emese Ambrus mit einem
„Roadmovie“ über den Elvisimitator „Elvis Rromano“.

Schwerpunktland Bulgarien. Die Präsentation des
Filmes einer jungen bulgarischen Romni, Ludmila Zhivkova,
beim Salzburger Filmfestival erregte auch in bulgarischen
Medien großes Aufsehen. Eine der größten bulgarischen Tageszeitungen
setzte ein Porträt dieser jungen Filmemacherin auf
ihre Titelseite. Mehrheitlich zeichnet die Berichterstattung ein
negatives Bild der Roma mit zum Teil offen ausgetragener Verhetzung.
Um so erfreulicher diese „prominente“ und positive
Darstellung in einem an sich romafeindlichen Massenmedium.
Ein Medienfestival als „kritische Masse“ mit medialer Außenwirkung.

Geschichte zum Angreifen. Schüler treffen auf Betroffene.
Die zweite Klasse einer Hauptschule und die siebte
Klasse eines Gymnasium folgten der Einladung des oberösterreichischen
Sinti-Vereins „Ketani“. Ketani präsentierten einen
Film, der die berührende Geschichte einer oberösterreichischen
Sintifamilie in mehreren Generationen erzählt. Ein zeitgeschichtliches
Dokument und für die Schülerinnen und Schüler,
ein hautnahes Erleben von Geschichte, die offiziell ausgeblendet
wird. Denn ausgeblendet wird sowohl das Leben der Sinti
heute, als auch deren Massenermordungen in den Konzentrationslagern.

Am Vorplatz der Argekultur installierte der freie Sender
„Radiofabrik“ ein Hörmahnmal. Die Metallskulptur zeigt eine
Figur auf Rädern, dem Symbol der Roma und Sinti. Durch
Bewegungsmelder ausgelöst sind die Namen von Salzburger
„Zigeunern“ zu hören, die durch die Massenvernichtung im
Dritten Reich umgekommen sind.
Eine weitere Initiative, die sich am 22. Juni dem Thema vor Ort
widmen wird: das Projekt „Stolpersteinverlegung“. Geschichte
wird sichtbar gemacht.

Das Konzertprogramm eröffnete das „Dotschy Reinhardt
Ensemble“. Die in Berlin lebende Angehörige des Django
Reinhardt Clans führte in ihren Chansons und beschwingten
Jazzballaden in eine sehr persönliche Welt ihres Sintiseins. Ein
bewußt gesetzter „leiser“ Auftakt. Spätestens seit den Filmen
Kusturicas kennt sie jeder: die Hochzeitskapellen der südosteuropäischen
Roma. Am letzten Tag des Festivals elektrisierte
das „King Naat Veliov und das Original Kocani Orkestar“ mit
seinen Hochgeschwindigkeitsrhythmen. Romakultur pur, ein
Volksfest reiner Lebensfreude und der Trompete. „La Brass
Banda“ waren an diesem zur Gänze ausverkauften Abend die
bayrische blechgeblasene Antwort auf „King Naat“. Die radikale
Umdeutung der Lederhose. Das Quintett zitierte musikalisches
Material von Pop, Reggae bis Traditional und übersetzte
es in den Stil einer Romakapelle, jedoch mit „stark bayrischem
Akzent“. Ein Beispiel zur Wirkung von Romamusik. Romaneske,
südosteuropäische Brasstradition trifft auf bayrische
Brasstradition. Das Ergebnis: hier wie da, das Publikum „feiert
und tanzt auf der selben Hochzeit ein Volksfest“.

Samstags, in den frühen Morgenstunden ging ein Festival zu
Ende, das sich von sehr unterschiedlichen Seiten und Betrachtungsweisen
dem Thema Roma und Sinti näherte. Ein Thema,
das sich in sich selbst so unterschiedlich und vielfältig wie
komplex darstellt. Ein Festival, das nichts „auf einen Nenner“
bringen wollte. Jedoch ein Festival des differenzierten Blicks.
Kritisch und unterhaltsam, streitbar und engagiert. Kein Event,
sondern Nachhaltigkeit.

A total 14 films from Romania, Kosovo, Serbia, Israel and the United States will be screened until Friday, depicting the culture and everyday life of Roma and Sinti, the largest minority in Europe with an estimated population of between 10 and 12 million.

Ironically, only one of the films was directed by a Roma: “A Gypsy in the Central Committee of the Bulgarian Communist Party” by Ludmila Zhivkova of Bulgaria.

The festival, funded by the town and province of Salzburg, as well as the European Union and World Bank, is part of the Decade of Roma Inclusion, an EU project to improve living conditions for gypsies.

Concerts are also planned during the festival, and a commemoration is due to be held for 300 Salzburg gypsies, deported and killed by the Nazis during World War II.

“Kum noj vidém/Ahogy mi látjuk“ („As we see it”). A Film by young Roma from Alsószentmárton, HU 2009, 15 min. Support: Videant Ltd./Somogyvári Rudolf, Gajdos Milán, Zajti Balázs.
The film shows the village Alsószentmárton from the perspective of young Roma people living there. Many young Roma are without jobs, others want to study. The film gives an insight into educational work at the „Kistigris” („Little Tiger”) High School and the local day-centre of Alsószentmárton.

The festival:

The Central European Roma Short Documentary and Report Films Festival primarily aimed at facilitating a recognition and a better understanding of the Roma culture, providing a realistic image of the situation of the minority and its relation to the majority culture. It documented the complex reality of the Roma culture and its system of traditions, its set of values, its everyday life, and reveals the inevitable effects that emerge from these. With the help of the short films the organisers were looking for answers to such questions as how historical tradition and the course of contemporary life affects Roma families and their coexistence with the majority nation, and what are the possibilities and limitations of integration from the point of view of members of the minority.
The goal of the films festival was to raise awareness to the problems of the Romany and the difficulties of Roma–non-Roma coexistence, since the unresolved and ever graver problems keep widening the gap between them throughout Europe. Fear and threat of violence are growing among those standing on opposite sides of the gap, which can easily lead to the development of explosive social conflicts. Further aim of the organizers was to call the attention of policymakers and responsible intellectuals to the problems of the Roma and the hardships of Roma–non-Roma coexistence.
As a Central European festival, applicants were awaited from the following countries: the Czech Republic, Romania, Croatia, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia and Ukraine-Ruthenia.

We try to recycle the main street of Pécs with an artistic aim within the Temporary City program series of the Közelítés Művészeti Egyesület. We use the empty parlors and the public places surrounding them for social and artistic purposes during the program. We convert the real estates to studios, workshops, exhibition-rooms – mobile laboratories.

Bulgarian, Dutch, German, Italian, Austrian and Hungarian artists and artistic institutions take part in the program. During the 10-day program exhibitions, performances and musical events enliven the part of the Király Str. which has had an adverse fate.

Several ex-chandleries and fashion stores, the traditional pastry-shop of Pécs, the mall of the inner city gain temporarily an artistic function. Ten contemporary art galleries, video-café, recycling tailor’s workshop, doorway concerts and DJs, street projections, children’s drawings exhibition, fine art children workshops and family maying offer high-standard spare time activities.

The program series is also accompanied by a one-day theoretical shopwork, during which local and foreign experts introduce different city-visions on the borderline of architecture and fine art.

The aim of the program is to bring in such forms of deeds, lifestyles, patterns – “rituals”- which carry the values of the contemporary art.

The program is the accentuated contemporary art event of the Pécs 2010 European Capital of Culture programs, which is realized with the support of the National Cultural Fund and the European Union Culture 2007 frame program.

The film Kum noj vidém! (Project: VIDEODROM – www.romavideodrom.net, Production: Videant Ltd.) was presented in the framework of the Temporary City art programme (part of the Pécs 2010 – European Capital of Culture programme) at a children drawing exhibition which presented drawings made by Roma children for a drawing competition. The film could be viewed non-stop on TV during the opening time of the exhibition.
The exhibition was open to the public: 17-22 May, every day: 14 – 21 h

Anlässlich des „INTERNATIONALEN TAG DER ROMA“ am 8. April 2009 lud der VEREIN KETANI zu einem informativen Nachmittag und einem unterhaltsamen Abend ein.

Das Programm startete um 15:00 Uhr mit einer Filmpräsentation:

Anhand von Gesprächen im privaten Bereich gewährt der Kurzfilm Einblicke in Kultur und soziale Struktur der Sinti und Roma in Österreich. “Die Vergangenheit ist noch nicht vergangen. Die Zukunft hat für uns noch nicht begonnen. Wir brauchen Kraft, die über das Normale hinausgeht, um überleben zu können.”

In etlichen Gemeinden Oberösterreichs hatten Sintigroßfamilien schon ab dem 18. Jahrhundert Heimatrecht, alte Menschen erinnern sich noch an das oft problemlose Mit- und Nebeneinander. Sinti aller Generationen kommen ausführlich zu Wort, berichten von den Schrecken der Verfolgung und der
Ignoranz der Zweiten Republik, aber auch von Zusammenhalt und Glück in den Zeiten des Auf-der-Reise-Seins, von Kulturtraditionen und der eigenen Sprache.

Anschließend fanden Lesungen von Rosa Gitta Martl und Ludwig Laher statt.

Am Abend ab 19:30 Uhr folgte ein gemeinsames Fest mit feuriger Roma Musik der Band „Roma Jazz Kompanie & Ivana Ferencova“.
